By the end of this training course, learners will have a basic understanding of the construction industry, the hazards associated with plant operations, and the responsibilities of a 360 Excavator operator. Learners will develop a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine being used and understand the importance of operating equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidance and current health and safety legislation.
The course will enable learners to identify the major components of the excavator and explain their functions, including steering, driving, and braking controls. Learners will also understand how to select, inspect, and maintain the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for excavator operations.
In addition, learners will be trained to carry out pre-operational inspections in line with manufacturer and legislative requirements, safely mount and dismount the machine, and correctly start, stop, and manoeuvre the excavator in both open and confined working areas across varying terrain.
The training will also cover how to carry out safety checks within the work area, position and configure the machine safely for excavation activities, and perform a range of excavating tasks efficiently and safely. Learners will gain practical experience loading materials into vehicles or containers, reinstating excavations, grading and levelling ground, and fitting and removing attachments correctly.
Finally, learners will understand the correct end-of-shift procedures, including safe shutdown, securing, and parking of the machine in accordance with site and manufacturer requirements.
