ProQual Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
Course Overview
The ProQual Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) is an Ofqual-regulated qualification that prepares individuals to become qualified assessors in vocational, workplace, and training environments. Recognised across the UK, it is the industry-standard assessor qualification and has replaced the former A1, A2, D32, and D33 assessor awards.
This qualification equips learners with the skills and knowledge required to assess occupational competence, vocational skills, and theoretical knowledge effectively. It covers assessment in both workplace and classroom settings, making it the most comprehensive assessor qualification available for those wishing to assess learners across a range of vocational sectors.
Suitable for both aspiring and experienced assessors, the qualification is widely undertaken by professionals working within further education, independent training providers, apprenticeship programmes, and workplace learning environments. Typical career opportunities include Vocational Assessor, Apprenticeship Assessor, Training Officer, Learning and Development Practitioner, and progression into Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) roles.
Learners will gain an understanding of assessment principles and practices, planning and conducting assessments, making valid and reliable assessment decisions, providing constructive feedback, maintaining assessment records, and meeting awarding organisation and regulatory requirements.
Assessment is carried out through a portfolio of evidence supported by practical assessment activities in a real work environment. Learners are required to assess at least two individuals and demonstrate the use of a variety of assessment methods, including observation, professional discussion, questioning, witness testimony, and review of work products.
As demand continues to grow for qualified assessors across education, training, and apprenticeship sectors, the CAVA qualification provides an excellent pathway into assessment, quality assurance, and leadership roles.
